The days do rush by. It is too long since I have given attention to this blog. I guess I went through a season of dullness for which I take no responsibility. But, I am back after a long period of blogal inactivity, partially because I was busy with ministry and the excitement and work of the Christmas season.
“Filling in” means that I go here and there to parishes which need help in fulfilling their Mass schedules. In December, for two weeks I was in Bermuda at the request of the bishop there who had SOSed my provincial asking for a priest for two weekends. I thought “Why not?” So I was given the honor of celebrating Masses on two weekends on the small island of Bermuda –someone had to sacrifice!
In Bermuda, I met wonderful parishioners an a great bishop. The two parishes I served on those weekends, St. Joseph’s and St. Anthony’s, were small but enthusiastic communities. Having Masses with these fine people was a pleasure. Bishop Wes is hardworking, enthusiastic and humble in his service to the islanders. I felt very welcome and was glad to serve.
So, here it is, January 2, 2019, a new year in service to the Lord. For me, this year, I’m going to use the motto of the newest American saint, St. Junipero Serra: “Always Forward, Never Back.”
